Positive Teens
Magazine Joins Boston Celebration
Boston, MA, August 16, 2005
Positive Teens magazine will be joining the city
of Boston during the city’s 375th Anniversary celebration
with two appearances on Monday, August 22, 2005. As
part of the author’s series, Boston Voices, Susan Manning
will discuss her career as the magazine’s publisher
and editor. Also, local teen writers will be present
to read selections of their work from previously published
Positive Teens issues.
The first appearance will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at
Fanuiel Hall in the historic Fanuiel Hall Marketplace
building in Boston. In the evening, a longer discussion
will be held from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Boston Public
Library’s Honan Allston Branch located at 300 North
Harvard Street in Allston. At both appearances local
teen contributors from Positive Teens magazine
will be present for discussion involvement. Admission
is free at both events. “I am looking forward to joining the City of Boston in
this wonderful celebration of history and diversity,”
said Susan Manning in a recent interview. “Boston is
rich in culture and history and I am happy to have Positive
Teens take part in the festivities.”
Located in Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts,
Positive Teens, Accentuating the Positive
in Today’s Teens has showcased articles authored
by teen writers since it’s first publication in 1998.
The magazine, a global publication, is inclusive to
gender, racial, religious affiliation and sexual orientation.
Published articles are primarily from teens and young
adults. These writers contribute short stories, non-fiction,
poetry, artwork and various articles all published to
encourage and promote a positive awareness of teens
and young adults in today’s society. Issues are addressed
that they find important.
March…
Positive Teens traveled to New York where we hosted a resource table at the Peace Project 2005 conference.
Assisting conference organizer and co-host, Billy Hallowell at this year’s conference were: Miss USA 2004, Shandi Finnessey and actress Lori Beth Denberg, co-star of TV shows “All That” and “The Steve Harvey Show” on the Nickelodeon channel. Special guests included: MTV’s “Real World” co-star Syrus; former student and survivor of the violence at Columbine High School, Craig Scott; and youth motivational speaker, Jon Callegher.
Held at the College of Mount Saint Vincent’s Hayes Auditorium, the conference attracted hundreds of high school and college students, teachers, administrators, family members, friends, and the curious.
Youth activism, violence prevention, and self-empowerment were the major themes at this year’s conference.
