Czech Republic
Roman
Hi! My name is Roman and I live in the
Czech Republic. I was born on the 11th July 1989 and I live
in Újezd nad Lesy. It is a small town in the suburbs of the
city of Prague. Prague is the capital of the Czech Republic.
Some of you might think how strange my surname sounds. It
has its origin in the name of the Swiss town of SCHAFHAUSENN,
the meaning of which can be freely translated into English
as a ship house or a ferry port.
And now let me tell you some things about my everyday life.
My parents say that when I was only three months old, I tried
to walk and since than I have been permanently on the move,
not being able to be stopped.
To make use of my excessive energy, at the age of six I took
up athletics. I now specialize in sprint and my record in
the 60-meter run is 7.9 seconds and in the 150-meter run it
is 20 seconds. As I get older, I’ve realized that starting
the sport young enabled me to improve my speed. When I was
eleven years old I ranked the second in Prague’s Athletic
Championship. That was still not enough for such an energetic
child as me, and so two years later, I started playing basketball
and volleyball.
Horseback riding is another activity I like very much. Anyway,
sports and games are not my only hobbies.
About the same time as my athletic interests were growing,
I became attracted by the music of a musical style called
SKA (an acronym for Square Kilometre Array). This type of
music is not very common and well-know with young people.
The style is given its name according to a special sound produced
by the guitar, which resembles the word SKA. I enjoy the style
because of its liveliness and cheerfulness, which makes me
feel happy and optimistic.
In my leisure time when I am not somewhere with my friends,
I like reading books, mainly fantasy novels and dramas. I
was impressed most by Terry Pratchett, whose play Wyrd Sisters
has been presented on the stage of one of Prague’s theatres
and was directed by the author himself.
I also tried writing stories on my own but after coming back
and re-reading them, I don’t find them as amusing and as interesting
as they seemed to be at the beginning.
It is true that I tend to be very active at times. However
it doesn’t mean that I don’t have enough time for my school
studies. I am proud on the fact that I succeeded in an entrance
interview and I was admitted to the College of Economics here
in Prague. I hope I will enjoy my studies of economics and
I will still have enough time for my likes and hobbies.
PT Note: Ska is a form of Jamaican music.
