Fight For What You Know Is True
Why do things change,
When change is not called for?
Why do things remain the same
When the world can take it no more?
Why are we silent,
When someone hushes us?
And why do we scream
When there is no reason for a fuss?
Why do we try
At the wrong time and place?
Why is it that we accuse and stare,
At the wrong eyes and face?
Why do we try to look beyond
To find the truth that’s already known?
And yet simply take things as they are when the
True guilt hides beyond an innocent face alone?
And why do we preach
Of things we do not understand,
But still claim to comprehend, as though
We had seen its face and held its hand?
This is in the past
We must not err again!
The future is in our hands
Truth and peace we must defend!
No shame or tortured souls
Will fear again tomorrow,
No blood will be shed
No tears will flow, no more sorrow.
If today, we take down
The liars and their lies,
We shall have changed our world
And saved many desperate lives.
You can trust the tears — you can trust the pain.
You can trust the desperate eyes of a child.
You must learn to stand up for what you believe in,
Be true to yourself; be true to this world, so beautiful — so wild.
And with this message I beg of you
Unite with those you trust
And fight for what you know is true.
