The Things You Lose
The things you lose
Are the things you’re sure will come back;
Like the things you didn’t choose
Are the things you think you don’t lack.
The people you love
Are the ones you think will never leave,
And the things you were so sure of
Never losing, are the things you’ll never retrieve.
Because when things are really gone;
When someone you love dies,
You forget the reasons for living on,
You wonder who will hear your desperate cries.
Because they’re gone, when they should be here;
You feel that they’ll be back somehow,
That they left for a while but they’ll reappear
And you hope beyond hope that that moment is now.
You wonder why you lost them, why you?
Why did they have to leave us behind?
But the truth is they left you so that
You could find them another time.
